How to Fix Skewing Roman Shades

We take pride in delivering our roman shades pre-mounted and ready to install so you can enjoy a fuss-free installation experience. However, given the long journeys they make from our studios to your home, on very rare occasions, a piece of the mechanism may ‘move’ in transit and your roman shade may hang askew like it’s got somewhere better to be. Don’t let the off-kilter shade throw you off. Fixing a skewing roman shade is a matter of minutes. Think of it as a small, joyful moment spent tuning up your new favorite thing until it feels just right.
Roman Shade Lift Lines & Locks: A Brief Introduction

A key feature of every roman shade is its ‘lift lines’— vertical cords running along the length of the shade from top to bottom. For shades up to about 48 inches wide, you’ll typically find three lift lines, while wider shades may have additional lines to support the shade panel evenly.

At the end of each lift line is a ‘line lock' - a small, clear plastic cord-gripping mechanisms that hold each lift line at a set length and tension.
How to Reset the Lift Line Length & Tension
STEP ONE: Lower your shade all the way down. Then stand on the rear side of the shade so you are in a position to see the mechanism behind your shade.
STEP TWO: Gently operate the pull cord to lift the shade until the bottom bar meets the fold line/slat directly above it. Pause here—this is the optimal position for inspecting and identifying any alignment issues.
STEP THREE: Observe the position of the lift lines as well as the line locks at the bottom. All line locks should ideally rest on the loop ring of the bottom-most slat at the exact same level. In case of a skewing shade, however, you may notice that one (or more) of the locks has slid out of its place, either up or down on the lift line. The goal is to bring the line locks back to their position so that all the lines are hanging at the same length and tension levels.
STEP FOUR: Press and hold the toggle button to activate the lock. Then slide the relevant lock(s) up or down along the lift line to bring them back into alignment with the others, as shown in the video above. All locks should sit directly above the loop ring of the first slat, and the tension/ length between all the lift lines should be equal. If the lock had moved upward, gently bring it down, and vice versa. Once they are at the same level, release the toggle button and lock it in place.
And that’s all, really!
Once the lift locks are adjusted to make all lift lines of equal length and tension, your roman shade will fold in even, straight pleats. If you need help with anything else, you can find us just an email away. On that hope, happy staring at your picture-perfect, pretty shades!
